Summary/Abstract: The idea of building the temple arose in 1884, simultaneously with the idea of com¬memorating several anniversaries – 1000 years since the death of Methodius in 865, the convertion of the Bulgarians by Royal Prince Boris I during the same year. The Fourth Ordinary Assembly decided to celebrate these anniversaries and to build a temple in honor of the holy brothers Cyril and Methodius in old Preslav. The foundation stone of the temple was laid in 1885, and the construction was completed in 1918. The consecration of the temple took place on May 12, 1929. The event was duly reflected in the local, regional and national press. In 1938 started an argument between Varna – Preslav’s bishop residence and Council of Ministers for the ownership of the church, the land surrounded it, the two additionally built buildings and its financing. The dis¬pute arose at the request of the National Archaeological Museum and lasted until 1949, when by decree of the Council of Ministers the land and both buildings were given to the National Archaeological Museum, and the temple-monument “St. Cyril and Methodius” to the Varna – Veliko Preslav Metropolitanate in 2016.
