Summary/Abstract: In the context of accelerated globalization and the continuous increase of anthropogenic activities in the marine environment, Maritime Spatial Planning (MSP) in Romania is becoming essential for the sustainable management of marine resources. The research aims to analyze the implementation of MSP in Romania, highlighting the European and national legislative framework, as well as the challenges and benefits associated with this process. EU Directive 2014/89/EU constituted the basis for the development of MSP, being transposed into Romanian legislation through Government Ordinance no. 18/2016 and subsequently through government laws and decisions. The effective implementation of MSP in Romania faces difficulties such as institutional coordination, resource allocation and data integration. However, the benefits of MSP are significant, including reducing conflicts between users, optimizing the use of marine resources and protecting sensitive ecosystems. The study emphasizes the need to adopt integrated strategies and strengthen marine governance to ensure the sustainable development of the Romanian maritime economy. The findings indicate that MSP represents a vital tool for balancing economic growth and environmental conservation, contributing to a sustainable and prosperous future for future generations.
