Summary/Abstract: The study presents the emerging discourse among Czech national economists and business elites during the First World War on the economy of the future independent Czech/Czechoslovak state. The preparation for economic disengagement from Vienna and Budapest acquired institutional form, when the top national Czech business associations were formed; press form, namely reflections on the state of the economy and future economic policy in the pages of the daily newspapers and magazines; and, above all, the form of an explicit transition-transformation economic programme/project. In addition to the programme itself, the focus of the research is on its creators as a specific, exclusive group of people with unusually high economic, social and cultural capital. The collective biogram shows a very close link to the business environment, especially to the banking sector.
