Summary/Abstract: The Ploughman and Death is a theatrical production directed by Silviu Purcărete that brings together, in spectacular fashion, two art forms: theatre and film. The director’s dramaturgical concept challenges the conventions of stage reality by presenting one of the two main characters through a virtual representation — a role performed by the same actor who remains physically present on stage throughout the performance. In the production staged at the “Vasile Alecsandri” National Theatre in Iași, the Ploughman appears in the flesh, whereas Death, rendered through cinematic and holographic means and video-mapped onto the walls and set elements, remains immaterial. Purcărete playfully exploits the technical resources at his disposal, creating visual effects that culminate in Death’s descent into the tangible theatrical realm and the Ploughman’s transfer into the cinematic medium. The result is an immersive experience, driven by a compelling narrative and impeccably shaped visually by scenographer Dragoș Buhagiar and composer Vasile Șirli.
