Summary/Abstract: The article focuses on a contrastive study of Italian and Polish specialized lexicons, analyzing Italian adjectives with the derivational suffix -are. The analysis encompasses two-element terminological syntagms with a noun-adjective structure in the medical field and their Polish equivalents, such as: (i) arcata alveolare > łuk zębodołowy (‘alveolar arch’), albinismo oculare > bielactwo oczne (‘ocular albinism’); (ii) arteria appendicolare > tętnica wyrostka robaczkowego (‘appendicular artery’), displasia oculare > dysplazja oka (‘ocular dysplasia’); (iii) cavità oculare > oczodół (‘ocular cavity’ or ‘orbit’). A characteristic feature of the analyzed group of terms is the presence of variants – both terminological and contextual – in one or both languages (e.g. lesione cerebellare / lesione del cervelletto, disfunzione cerebrellare / disfunzione del cervelletto, pl. zaburzenie móżdżkowe / zaburzenie czynności móżdżku (‘cerebellar lesion / dysfunction’).
