Summary/Abstract: The Government of Romania considers Romania’s accession to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) a major strategic objective that involves, on the one hand, the alignment with international standards and good practices in the field of economic governance and on the other hand, from the perspective of economics specialists, the development of the current practice of economic governance. If in 2023 the evaluations of the Romanian economy and the forecasts were extremely positive, appreciating that “by 2030 the Romanian economy will explode”, today, the prospects are terribly bad, Romania facing reforms that led the country to contemplate the possibility of reaching the critical “junk” rating. The promotion of convergence and sustainable economic growth must be prepared through the economic measures taken by the government so that Romania’s accession to the OECD is to be taken into serious consideration and not expect that this accession would be a simple matter of time. The fact is that Romania’s accession to the OECD is awaited with great hope, welcome by both the government and the Business Environment. In this perspective the government interest for open government seems, at least at the declarative level, a step forward. The paper acknowledges the importance of this desiderate of Romania’s accession to OECD, describes and analyses the concept of “open government“ and concludes that at this stage the gap between the declarative and the practical governance levels is quite significant.
