Summary/Abstract: After the Russian full-scale invasion in Ukraine in 2022, Russia's military destruction of Ukrainian cultural heritage became a war crime for which the aggressor state would be liable in international courts. After Russia occupied Ukrainian Crimea and parts of Donetsk and Luhansk regions in 2014, Ukrainian media with high working standards, like "Ukrainska pravda", "Ukrinform", "Ukraïner", "Texty", and so on, developed a special thematic segment of publications. That is, analytical reports about looting, plundering cultural institutions' property, and deliberate missile and drone attacks against cultural monuments. World media, including Polish, started to pay more attention to these themes only after February 24, 2022. Precisely after the full-scale Russian invasion, the columns were filled with thoughtful reports about plundering and devastation of cultural objects. Media systematically interpret cultural heritage as a "code of nation", an identity element that must be protected. In Poland, the media "Do Rzeczy" became a champion for describing proper questions. Russian aggression stimulated Ukraine, as well as the state and civil society, to seek to find and practice correct methods for preserving cultural heritage. This thematic block is also strongly present in the mediascape, mainly Ukrainian. Nevertheless, in light of actual Russian attacks, media have a task to attract the attention of the international community to the terrible symptoms of cultural genocide in the centre of Europe during the XXI century.
