Summary/Abstract: Our study focuses on the reading of literary texts across different formats: printed and digital. Its objective is to analyze students' preferences regarding the reading medium used during classroom activities. To achieve this, we sought to answer the following questions: Which formats are preferred by FLE students when reading literary texts? Does the choice of format influence comprehension and information retention? To explore these questions, we designed a written questionnaire, which was administered to third-year French language students. This questionnaire aimed to examine the time dedicated to reading, the information retained, as well as the advantages and disadvantages of each format. Two novels were selected for the study: Le Joueur d’échecs by Stefan Zweig and Le Vieil homme et la mer by Ernest Hemingway. The students were instructed to read one of these two works and produce a reading report based on their experience. They had the option to choose between three formats: printed book, digital book (PDF), and audiobook. The results indicate that 70% of students preferred the digital version, while 30% opted for the printed format. As for comprehension and information retention, these appear to depend on various factors, including reading expectations, time dedicated to the activity, and the type of format used.
