Summary/Abstract: More than a year after the collapse of the canopy at Novi Sad railway station, this contribution analyses the student mobilization in Serbia as a lasting indicator of the structural tensions affecting the rule of law and democratic functioning. It successively examines the triggers and context of the mobilization, the development and structuring of the protests, as well as the redefinition of relationships between students, academic staff, and university institutions in response to measures restricting academic autonomy. Particular attention is paid to the polarizing role of the media and to the ambivalent use of the digital space in the mobilization. Finally, the authors assess the reaction of the European Union and the effective scope of European conditionality, highlighting the limits of a predominantly declaratory approach in the face of a prolonged democratic crisis.
