Summary/Abstract: This paper discusses the results of a survey completed 2020-2023 by students of practical linguistics and copywriting. Respondents commented, among other things, on the functions performed by dictionaries, their authority and the influence of authors and the time of their compilation on the content of dictionaries. Most of the participants of the survey agreed that all or at least some dictionaries are a model of linguistic correctness, a picture of their time, society and culture, a monument of national culture and a treasure trove storing the best variety of language. The fewest shared the view that dictionaries describe the entire language. The written contributions of the 2023 year group in lexicography class show that they found it most useful to discuss the lexicographer's workshop, to identify the best dictionaries to use and to train their skills in using language corpora.
