Summary/Abstract: Leaders and their selection methods are important in party politics across democracies, including the Baltic States. While there are studies on leadership selection in Central and Eastern European countries, a limited number of studies exist regarding the Baltic countries. Hence, there is little information about how the major political parties in Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania have evolved and changed the way of choosing their leaders, and the mechanisms that underlie these changes. This study addresses these gaps by organizing the records of nominations and elections of party leaders, including press data, and examining the possibility of different institutional factors (electoral systems, election laws, and party regulations) introducing different methods for selecting leaders for each political party
