Summary/Abstract: The Council of Nicaea was convened at a difficult time for both the Roman Empire and Christians. The end of the crisis of the 3rd century, through the reforms of Diocletian and Constantine, and the end of the power struggles were just beginning to bear fruit. The process of restoring and consolidating the state that was about to become a Christian one was, however, endangered by religious controversies within the various Christian communities. This led Emperor Constantine the Great to act decisively to eliminate the dissensions, through an Ecumenical Council that would end with the adoption of the point of view considered valid.
