Summary/Abstract: The article examines the state of phonemic perception and phonological awareness in children aged 5 – 7 with specific articulation disorders, childhood apraxia of speech and dysarthria. Data collected during the standardization of the Test battery for Oral Motor Skills (TOMS) for the diagnosis of severe speech disorders and differential diagnosis with phonological (language) disorders in children of upper preschool age are presented. The results obtained confirm the hypothesis of significantly lower levels of formation of basic phonological operations in the experimental group. Some intergroup differences are outlined in children with speech sound disorders in terms of phonemic perception. The main conclusions draw attention to the importance of targeted work on the development of both phonemic perception and phonological awareness in preschool children with impaired sound production as a form of prevention of possible difficulties in mastering reading and writing.
