Summary/Abstract: The present study analyzes the strategies of the learner's mediating competence as an intercultural speaker in an inter- and pluricultural environment. The issue we focus on is based on analyzing the role and characteristics of the intercultural speaker as a mediator of meaning. We will use the mediation strategies offered by the updated version of the CEFR, which is the Complementary Volume (CEFR VC, 2020). Additionally, we would like to present the most relevant aspects of intercultural communicative competence which constitutes a fundamental support in the personal and textual mediating activities of a learner of Spanish as a foreign language. Textbooks on Spanish as a foreign language are our core interest. We will analyze how their authors propose to work with linguistic and cultural knowledge from the perspective of mediating strategies.
