From home education to the challenges of the 21st century – how to develop 4K competences in home education

Summary/Abstract: This article is the transcript of a talk given at the International Scientific Conference “Education in the face of contemporary challenges”. The author – as a practitioner working in the field of education for 19 years – addresses the issue of learning in the context of homeschooling, the development of 4K key competences and the formation of independent learning skills. Another area is looking at the implementation of the core curriculum and reading it in such a way that homeschooling is a creative adventure. In the lecture, the concrete examples and experiences developed throughout the almost 10 years of homeschooling were cited. The school stages covered were grades 1–3, grades 4–6 and grades 7–8 including high school. The conscious development of 4K cognitive competences can be a support for home education and a space to develop a young person prepared for the challenges of the modern world.
