Singing in the Romanian Orthodox Church during the jubilee year (1925-2025)

Summary/Abstract: The year 1925, when the Romanian Orthodox Church was elevated to the rank of Patriarchate, was already a year of great transformations on all levels, coming shortly after the Union of Transylvania with Romania in 1918. Regarding Romanian chants within the Liturgy, in all Romanian provinces, the choral repertoire included liturgical compositions by various Romanian composers, featuring unique harmonic variations and styles of great beauty. However, when it comes to the ecclesiastical modes or tones (glas-eh), it is known that they are practiced differently in the Banat and Transylvania regions (cunțana and bănățeana) compared to the psaltic tones, which appear in different authors' versions or as selections of chants transcribed from psaltic notation into linear notation.
