Summary/Abstract: Leather has always been one of the most widely used materials, and the many categories of leather products, whether we are talking about tanned and dyed leather, parchment, vellum, animal or vegetable fat-treated skins, or even rawhide, demonstrate its importance and usefulness throughout history. All these categories are known today under the general term of leather, although the many studies carried out on these categories, particularly in conservation and restoration laboratories, have highlighted the differences between them. The story of this material, so widely used and loved throughout history, highlights the cultural impact it has had on human society. Conservatorii și restauratorii au dezvoltat de-a lungul timpului tehnici și metode de manipulare și gestionare a obiectelor complexe găsite adesea in săpăturile de sal- Restorers have developed over time techniques and methods to handle and manage such complex objects, often discovered by rescue archaeology, methods through which the archaeological leather maintains its main characteristics - flexibility, cohesiveness – even after it has been lifted from the site. However, the advanced state of deterioration of these objects raises problems in terms of these characteristics. The preservation and restoration plan must be designed with the final result in mind. Of course, all archaeologists will want to reconstruct the found object, but in the case of archaeological leather, this is often impossible. However, pieces and fragments of leather are put through the process of conservation and/ or restoration.
