Summary/Abstract: This paper tries to systematicaly and argumentatively elaborate the phenomenon of quotational dialogue which David Albahari, in his novel Ludvig, leads with Danilo Kiš’s “Story of Master and Apprentice”, published in serbian periodical Književne novine in 1976 and later included in his last book Enciklopedija mrtvih (Encyclopedia of the dead). In the analysis of the aforementioned texts, it was necessary to apply the method of intertextuality, the theoretical basis of which is presented in the introductory part of the paper, which also presents the key theses and problems of the paper. Namely, both theses are intertwined around the problem of the origin of the text and originality. Final stages of this paper are dedicated to the examination of barthesian thesis of “death of the author” as opposed to traditional, now petrified notion of writer as a god-given genius-maker who creates ex nihilo – which consequently lead to birth of the reader-editor, shifting the interest of theoretical thought from author and his text to a reader, i.e. to a double play between reading and writing.
