Summary/Abstract: The History of Human Rights: A Foundation for Freedom and Peace. This paper examines the historical development of human rights from antiquity to the modern era, highlighting their intrinsic connection with freedom and peace. It argues that the evolution of rights cannot be understood as a linear progression but as a contested process shaped by philosophical reflection, religious traditions, revolutionary politics, and international law. Presenting historiographical debates—particularly over the medieval origins of rights and the modern reframing of rights in the 1970s—the study emphasizes both continuity and rupture in the trajectory of human rights discourse. As a conclusion, it shows that human rights have consistently been articulated as conditions necessary for freedom and the foundation of lasting peace. It has long become apparent in our more and more troubled world.
