Summary/Abstract: Despite the restraint of some scholars and authorities, historical analogies to theHolocaust constitute nothing new. However, since Hamas attacked southern Israelon October 7 and military operations in Gaza commenced, the frequency of suchanalogies in the context of these events has increased and the ways of using themhave shifted in relation to previous patterns. Furthermore, these analogies becomedisorienting for many participants in Holocaust discourse, including those of academicbackground. The article provides an overview of the transformations in discourse basedon historical analogies to the Holocaust and historical manifestations of anti-Semitism.Moreover, the text identifies discourse saturation with analogies that – when used withmoral intent – become a futile manifestation of the helplessness of those who evokethem.
