Summary/Abstract: The article addresses the subject of medicines security and sovereignty as fundamental criteria for managing medicines policy within the health policy. It is an interdisciplinary work in the field of economics, political science and public management. It fits into the research on national and global economy, nation states and national security, as well as postcolonial studies. The article presents the results of the conducted meta-analysis of data collected using triangulation of data from various sources obtained using the desk research technique and the snowball method. The methodology therefore included desk research, literature analysis, analysis of statistical and economic data and comparative analysis. The article presents the research results and introduces the theories underlying the research. The following issues are presented: the theory of state sovereignty, the concept of country sovereignty in the context of security theory, the definition of medicines security, pharmaceutical colonialism, and recommendations for the medicines policy of the Republic of Poland (RP). The article presents two original indicators, i.e. the Medicines Sovereignty Indicator (MSI) and the Patients’ Medicines Security Indicator (PMSI). The MSI for 2019 was calculated for 29 countries worldwide and shows which countries are medicines sovereign and which are not. The lowest levels of MSI were in Bulgaria, Romania, Slovakia, Greece, Czechia, Russia, and Poland.
