Summary/Abstract: In this article, the authors analyse how demographic changes related to the ageing population in Poland can be interpreted through the lens of securitisation theory. The study aims to identify how population ageing is portrayed in public discourse and to explain how it can shape social security through the process of securitisation. The research problem was formulated as the question, “How is population ageing portrayed in public discourse and can it be classified as a process of securitisation?” A qualitative approach was used, including analysis of public discourse and critical analysis of scientific literature. The analyses focused on identifying and interpreting media content, political statements and public documents. The study indicates that population ageing can lead to alarmist narratives. Conclusions suggest the need to balance the need to ensure social security with the protection of civil rights and avoid excessive state intervention.
