Summary/Abstract: Independent strategic thinking in the countries of the former Eastern Bloc Countries was very limited. Therefore, discovering how these delays were caught up after 1990 appears even more interesting. The case of Poland was chosen as specific, because it is based on the achievements of many sciences. The article presents the methodology of strategic analysis as an example of strategic thinking in defence in Poland. Starting from a brief characterization of scenario planning, attention was paid to the Polish theory of military strategy after 1990, which influenced the analysed Strategic Defence Review in 2010–2011. The critical evaluation of this review’s methodology covered two fundamental methods – scenario analysis and TOWS/SWOT analysis. Highlighting the advantages of these methods aimed to encourage their application and replication, while the identification of disadvantages was to draw attention to their critical points.
