ARIE, A CHALLENGE TO RELIGIOUS DIALOGUE

Summary/Abstract: Arie, a challenge to religious dialogue. This article examines the figure of Arius and the heresy that bears his name, focusing on the impact of Arianism on the early Church. By situating Arius within the historical and theological framework of the fourth century, the study highlights how his teaching triggered one of the most severe dogmatic crises, compelling the Church at the First Ecumenical Council of Nicaea (325) to articulate a clear definition of the relationship between the Father and the Son. Through an analysis of the Thalia, Arius’ political support, and the firm opposition of figures such as Athanasius of Alexandria, the paper emphasizes both the dangers of the heresy and its paradoxical role in clarifying Trinitarian doctrine. Furthermore, it considers the social and ecclesial consequences of Arianism, as well as the imperial interference in doctrinal matters. The conclusion stresses that, although officially condemned, Arianism persisted as a long-standing theological challenge and a negative yet necessary reference point for understanding the development of Christian dogma.
