Summary/Abstract: Freedom of conscience, a fundamental element in the evolution of post-revolutionary Transylvanian historiography. Transylvanian historiography, constrained by the ideological rigors of the communist regime, experienced after 1989 the possibility of free expression, the freedom to choose research directions and themes constituting one of the prerogatives of scientific activity in the field, as well as the treatment of various themes in the spirit of historical truth, felt especially in research dedicated to contemporary history. Transylvanian historiography, benefiting from contact with major historiographies and the network of Romanian researchers active in the diaspora, developed new scientific constructions in which Romanians, the Romanian countries (with a focus on the Transylvanian space) and then Romania creatively participated in the synthesis of the European continent in unison with the other homelands, and the national contribution was no longer quantified in relation to topical acts of bravery and the cult of various personalities from the past, but through institutional development, cultural impact, religious-spiritual particularity and the connection of all these details to the history of Europe, to universal history. Real challenges for historiography have been technological advances and the consequent presence of professionally unfiltered information in the media and in the virtual environment.
