Summary/Abstract: The article proposes a complex analysis of the “Bucharest after sunset” phenomenon, focusing on waste management and the social and economic manifestations that cause it to become less visible or more hidden during the night. In a developed society, trash or waste is considered omnipresent in every human activity in daily life. We can consider that waste generation is directly related to the conduct of human life, and for this reason, the generation of these residues cannot be entirely eliminated. By collecting official data, field observations, and comparative analyses, the paper identifies structural causes such as: infrastructure, institutional organization, and informal economic practices, and proposes integrated measures for a sustainable sanitation strategy. The study emphasizes the importance of including informal collectors in the waste value chain and the need for policies that reduce the gaps between political promises and administrative action. Another perspective addressed by the present study is represented by a historical approach to the notions of trash, trash cans, street aesthetics, and the nocturnal transformation of the city regarding the management and collection of this waste – a perspective that has been addressed up to the present.
