History of Communism in Romania as High School Study Object

Summary/Abstract: The works (for didactic use) considered in the pages below are the result of the initiative of the Ministry of Education and Research which, through the Order approving the School Curriculum for the compulsory subject History of Communism in Romania (upper‑secondary level, 12th grade, full‑time education; 13th grade, part‑time/evening education), issued on 16 December 2024 (published in the Official Gazette of Romania, Part I, no. 1286/19.XII.2024), approved the curriculum for this subject. It is therefore necessary, before discussing the textbooks, to direct our attention to this curriculum. Based on it, we can also refer to the textbooks prepared by various teams of researchers, teachers, and specialists, and published by the publishing houses that wished or had an interest in offering to the national education system—and to all those concerned with the topic—their own commercial product, produced in accordance with the ministry’s specifications.
