Summary/Abstract: The wedding cake is viewed as a ritual object, functioning as a mediator between the persons in the kin. It is a means by which the new kinship relations in the family are confirmed in a ritual way. On the other side, the cake is regarded as an expression of the idea of fertility. Consuming the cake might be interpreted as an act of affiliation with the values, which it expresses. As a symbol of abundance and fertility, the cake is multiplied in a series of objects, similar in their form, function, preparation and semantics. This multiplication is a typical characteristic of traditional culture, which operates with identities and repetitions, since material ritual forms are built by synonymously combined elements.
