Summary/Abstract: This paper offers an interdisciplinary analysis of the evolving relationship between European states and the institution of the family, with a particular focus on legal, sociological, and Eastern Orthodox theological perspectives. It explores the secularization of sexual ethics, the widespread normalization of cohabitation, the liberalization of divorce laws, and the juridical recognition of LGBTQ rights. Special attention is given to the juridical frameworks and tensions between national traditions and supranational instruments (especially those of the European Union and the Council of Europe). The study ultimately provides an Orthodox moral evaluation of these trends, warning against the consequences of abandoning traditional Christian values—such as marital instability, ethical relativism, demographic decline, and the weakening of family as a sacred institution. The conclusion affirms that a genuine revitalization of the family in contemporary Europe requires a spiritual return to the Christian ethos and a reaffirmation of moral absolutes rooted in divine revelation.
