Summary/Abstract: This article examines the development of ecclesiastical institutions in the cities of Constantinople and Rome during the 4th and 5th centuries. Rather than providing an in-depth analysis of each church structure, the focus is on those with a communal function, offering a panoramic view of their presence and role in urban Christian life. The necessity of such a study lies in the broader understanding it provides of local church organization in these two key centers. Although rarely addressed in Romanian theology, the investigation of this organizational framework reveals early elements that later contributed to the formation of the parish system, as well as the evolving relationships between bishops and priests, which began to take on a more structured form during this period.
