Summary/Abstract: This study examines how Metropolitan John Zizioulas’ approach to the relationship between theology and culture offers a balanced method for theological engagement with contemporary culture. Zizioulas articulated a theology deeply engaged with culture while remaining rooted in the patristic tradition following his mentor, Georges Florovsky. While Zizioulas inherited Florovsky’s critical stance toward secularizing trends in Western culture, he also developed a constructive openness to cultural dialogue, insisting that theology must actively shape culture rather than retreat into isolation. For Zizioulas, this task requires finding the balance between critique and acceptance. Zizioulas proposes a Eucharistic model of cultural engagement, where elements of the fallen world are transfigured through communion, sustaining the tension between history and eschatology that makes the Church capable of navigating between critique and creative participation in culture.
