Summary/Abstract: The Romanian people, by the mercy of God, are an Orthodox people with a living apostolic tradition deeply rooted in history. The Romanian Monasticism documented for more than sixteen centuries, has played a fundamental role in the spiritual life of this nation, profoundly influencing the identity and religious experience of Romanian believers. We are therefore called to nourish ourselves from this treasure, to preserve it with care and to make it known to those around us, especially to the next generations. Enriched by a deep spiritual life, based on tradition and the lived experience of faith, our people gave the world saints of great renown in the history of monasticism, some of them honored even beyond the borders of the country. We therefore have a sacred duty: to know them, to approach their teachings, to honor them with piety and to ask their help and guidance for salvation of our souls and of those who will come after us. Father Petroniu Tănase, former egumen of Prodromu, the Romanian Hermitage in the Holy Mount Athos, is part of the gallery of great Romanian spiritual leaders, fulfillers of God’s will and work. Through his pilgrim life, by word and deed, Father Petroniu has shown how life on earth must be lived in order to inherit the Kingdom of Heaven. To his disciples he offered not only advice full of the Holy Spirit, springing from his own spiritual experience, but also the teachings of the Elder Fathers, deeply grounded on the foundation of Holy Scripture and the writings of the Holy Fathers, constantly showing what is the final goal and purpose of the monastic life.
