Summary/Abstract: God, which is the source of all things, created the world seen and unseen, and made man, the crown of His creation, the lord and ruler over all things. Therefore, man who was created in the image of God had a target to become like Him, to sanctify oneself, to have eternal life. However, living in a world marked by pragmatism and materialism, contemporary man finds it increasingly difficult to fulfill this ideal. In search of the meaning of life, its origins and its ultimate purpose, he often ends up asking himself profound questions, but unfortunately, instead of choosing God, the source of life, he chooses sin, which brings him death. To provide answers to these concerns and to show how faith can be lived in everyday life, God has given mankind authentic models of Christian living. It is through Saints and witnesses to the faith that the word of the Gospel has taken shape, becoming alive and working in and through the world. Such a model is, of course, Father Petroniu Tănase the former abbot of the Romanian Hermitage Prodromul, in the Holy Mountain Athos. This contemporary confessor was a man of acrivity, of perfect order and the highest asceticism, known for his teachings on the spiritual life and for his emphasis on the importance of spiritual guidance in the process of salvation. Father often emphasizes the importance of a mentor in spiritual life, where the confessor not only guides, but also assumes a profound essential responsibility in the formation and perfection of the faithful. Especially in a context in which many people are tempted to rely only on their own judgment or on „worldly” wisdom, the confessor must become a beacon that lights the way to salvation, with the role of revealing the will of God for each person and to help identify the right path following the spiritual need.
