Summary/Abstract: The author of the article, studying existing information from national and foreign sources, analyzes defining aspects regarding the method of granting pensions to military personnel in reserve and retirement, at a time when there are a multitude of opinions at the national level regarding the classification of these pensions, the methods used to calculate them, and their so-called fairness, comparing them with civilian pensions. The legislative acts relating to military pensions and their evolution over time are also analyzed, as well as the criteria and motivation underlying their granting. In the author commentary and conclusions, he points out that now, when European peace and security are under threat, with an armed conflict taking place on Romania's border, the largest since World War II, continuing to discuss military pensions and the fairness of their award may generate controversy with undesirable effects on national security.
