A Few Words on the Fate of Petru Rareş until 1527

Summary/Abstract: The article discusses the fate of the Moldovan hospodar Petru Rareş before 1527, which is before he began to rule his hospodarate. According to some historians, he was identical to a certain Petru – a pretender to the Moldovan throne – who was staying in Poland. However, the analysis of the sources has made it clear that such an identification is not possible and that Petru Rareş cannot in any way be identified with that Petru, who was possibly Petru Aron’s son or grandson. The article also discusses Rareş’s attitude towards his predecessor – Ștefan IV the Younger, and his advisors, proving that he could not have been his opponent and rival for power.
