Summary/Abstract: The year 2024 brought with it austerity, a concept that sends shivers down the spine of any vocation‑driven researcher. The idea that one’s scholarly effort, over the course of a year (or even several), cannot be crowned with a published volume is both discouraging and troubling. The enthusiasm generated by the discovery of Victor Păcală’s (1874–1955) manuscript—long considered lost—Mărginimea și mărginenii de altădată și de acum* was overshadowed by the financial crisis knocking insistently at the door, by the impossibility of publishing a book that has been waiting for more than eight decades to see the light of print.
