Summary/Abstract: Interpreted as an illustration of the intensity of the integration of a group into a society that oriented its value system mainly towards aristocratic-feudal relations, or as the supreme degree of assimilation, superior to the Magyarization of the name and eventual conversion and which constituted in Hungary of the liberal era the true and definitive recognition, with a deeply national significance, the issue of the ennoblement of Jews in the era of the Austrian Emperor Francis Joseph Ist was not a very frequently approached topic and even less its reflection in Transylvania during the Dualist period. The cases analyzed in the present study fall within the general trend of the ennoblement of Jewish entrepreneurs in Transylvania during the Dualist period, whose families evolved towards a different social and professional position, very likely through education. The two examples analyzed are those of the Glück de Maros-Váradja and Jónás de Berve families, with appeal to genealogical data, land records, funeral inscriptions and obituaries. They illustrate the remarkable destinies of the local Jewish elite, affirmed in the favorable context of the Dualist Monarchy and interwar Romania, but also their decline during the Second World War and the early years of the communist regime.
