Summary/Abstract: A selection of documents from Russian and American archives, with examples of Russian propaganda in the United States in the mid-nineteenth century, during the Crimean War and the Civil War. It demonstrates characteristic mechanisms and narratives used to influence the democratic public opinion. The example used in the article is that of Count Adam Gurowski, an intellectual and political thinker who, in the name of his own universal visions, devoted himself to serving the Russian Empire and its secret operations. In this way, he became one of the most important Russian agents of influence in America in that period.
