Summary/Abstract: This research on an ancient floor mosaic illustrates the connection between the inner world of art and the liturgical role of composition. The sacred symbol has the ability to be rendered through words or images that carry with them aspects of its historical and hermeneutic path, allows us to glimpse the prototype. The current study analyzes the Peacoks with Amphora floor mosaic that belongs to the Late Antiquity period and was discovered on the island of Kos. The theme was approached from an archaeological point of view, with emphasis on the description of the historical and geographical context and its placement in the Hellenistic cultural framework. The conjunctural factors that influenced the relocation of the mosaic in the island of Rhodes were also reviewed. The central core of the work is the Christian character interpretation of the compositional-symbolic composition and the indication of the sources to which the reference was made. The present study also analyzes the plastic composition, the materials used and the techniques for transposing mosaics of this kind. I considered all these analysis filters to be unitarily harmonized so as to highlight as best as possible the beauty and theological richness that the Peacocks with Amphora mosaic expresses.
