Summary/Abstract: This research travels through the conceptual and psycho-emotional universe outlined by the Italian doctor Giacomo Dacquino in his life's work (see bibliography), trying to identify relevant leads in the pastoral context of analyzing paternity from a psychological and psychoanalytic point of view. The attitude towards the Divine in contemporary society seems to be characterized by a certain polarization: on the one hand, there are those who live their lives as if God did not exist, therefore practicing a firm rejection of Religion and of religious practice, and ultimately, of God, and on the other hand, there are those who are not only ardent, but even rabid, fanatical, practicing intolerance and promoting ideas specific to religious totalitarianism. In all denominations we encounter both extremes. In the middle, there is the segment of those who relate to the transcendent in a healthy manner. This polarization has its roots in the conflict that exists between today's man and the paternal figure. For several decades we have been living in a society allergic to everything that means fatherhood, paternalism and directiveness, rejecting any form of "dependence", be it biological, social or heavenly. Everyone knows what others should do, how others should behave, but no one knows what he personally should do, to change the world for the better. Be yourself – first – the change you want in the world! – this would be the rule of action.
