Summary/Abstract: This article attempts a critical reassessment of the unfinished novel rough draft I po dniach wielu, i po latach wielu [And after many days, and after many years] by Władysław Reymont, often identified as either an early version of The Vampire or part of a planned “American” tetralogy. The aim of the study is to verify these claims through a thorough analysis of Reymont’s manuscripts, as well as his own notes, statements and correspondence with Wanda Szczukowa and Wanda Toczyłowska. A source-based method was employed, drawing on unpublished drafts stored in the Ossolineum Library and relevant epistolary documents. The findings indicate that the preserved notes for I po dniach wielu constitute an independent, unfinished literary project, deeply inspired by Reymont’s relationship with his wife Aurelia Szacsznajder and with Wanda Toczyłowska.
