Summary/Abstract: The article addresses contemporary challenges of education of young children and comprises an analysis of the complexity of inconsistencies between pedagogical theories, educational policy and educational practice. Referring to the work of T. Lewowicki, the author emphasizes that the key element of the educational process is an individual approach to the child. This approach takes into account the unique needs, potential and capabilities of the child, and therefore, is the foundation of their full development. In the article, some challenges have been indicated resulting from dynamically growing social expectations towards education, which are in contrast with the pressure of standardization and bureaucratization of the system. The author discusses home education as an alternative solution that allows for greater flexibility, individualization of the teaching process and supporting the independence and internal motivation of the child. The advantages of home education are particularly emphasized, such as implementation of the assumptions of neurodidactics. At the same time, attention was also drawn to the legal and financial barriers that limit its development in Poland and the need to undertake research by scientific and expert communities to prove the advantages of home education and deepen the knowledge about its impact on children's development, as well as its effectiveness in comparison to traditional forms of teaching.
