The Spycimierz Corpus Christi Centre: From the Concept to the Realisation

Summary/Abstract: This article pertains to the investment project “Spycimierz Corpus Christi Centre”, located in the Uniejów municipality in the Łódź Voivodeship. The centre was developed between 2021 and 2024. The purpose of this paper is to present the origins of the facility and its role in preserving the intangible cultural heritage of creating floral carpets for the Corpus Christi procession. The main section of the article outlines the stages of the development of this cultural, educational, and museum centre. It also discusses the centre’s offerings as well as highlights the key events held within its premises. Special attention is paid to the role of tradition bearers (depositaries) in the growth of such initiatives. Despite its relatively short period of operation, the Spycimierz Corpus Christi Centre has already achieved significant success and continues to grow. It may serve as a model for both the already existing and the emerging museums dedicated to intangible cultural heritage.
