Summary/Abstract: The review presents “The Anthology of Classical Ukrainian Literature” (2025) by Dr Vladimir Kolev as a comprehensive introduction to the formation of modern Ukrainian literature. It outlines Ukraine’s cultural development between Poland and Russia, the influence of Orthodox and Western educational institutions, and the long-term imperial constraints that shaped a pattern of “delayed yet accelerated development.” The anthology’s generic and chronological structure reflects the intertwined Enlightenment, Romantic, and Realist tendencies of the period.
