Summary/Abstract: During the period from 1559 to 1592, Turobin emerged as one of the largest centres of craft production in Chełm Land. Under the ownership of Stanisław Górka, the town benefited from various privileges, land grants, an expansion of its borders, and a growing population. All this led to the development of a guild organisation, establishing a strong economic foundation for the urban artisans. The craft community made up half of the total population and played a significant role in the town's governance. The food, leather, textile, and metal production thrived, alongside prosperous fishing and milling operations. The types of crafts produced in Turobin were tailored to meet the needs of the town's residents and the surrounding villages. Although a fire in 1567 destroyed many workshops - about 96 were confirmed by historical sources - the number of workshops remained around 90 by the early 1580s. A decade later, this number had increased to 109 across 31 manufacturing branches. Turobin was recognised as one of the larger craft centres during this period (if you don't count Zamość, after Krasnystaw and Chełm). The Jewish community, which made up several per cent of the town's population, was primarily involved in butchery and soap making, and did not yet play a significant role in the town's economy. The Ruthenian community consisted of a small group of craftsmen who were dispersed across various guilds.
