Summary/Abstract: The article deals with the new phenomenon of educating children and young people from the Himalayan borderlands in foreign surroundings, separated from parents, in varied cultures and an international environment. This phenomenon influences the construction of the transcultural identity of young people raised in this way. The author's research on the Himalayan youth of Dolpo and Mustang fits into the concept of the middle-ground research. They present a new, self-creating group, emerging in the situation of subordination. The text is based on ethnographic field research in India and Nepal conducted between 2004-2009 and analysis of social media content.
