Summary/Abstract: The article analyses legal and philosophical concepts, selecting illustrative examples from national case law. The metaphor of the ‚language game‘ is particularly relevant in cases involving corruption and other categories, where the ‚lion‘s share‘ of the evidence usually consists of various texts, covertly recorded conversations, and so on. In this context, the use of language in a given situation can be viewed as a Wittgensteinian language game, whereby a statement is considered a move. The players - the participants in criminal proceedings - make their moves, thus ‚fixing‘ their own context of the language game and, consequently, their own interpretation of the events. Typically, the language and interpretations of the prosecution and the accused diverge. Consequently, the language games of criminal proceedings are played out through the analysis and interpretation of various concepts, expressions, slang and jargon. Each participant develops their own language, and their interactions and the extent to which they can substantiate their claims determine the outcome of the game, i.e. whether the defendant is acquitted or convicted. The text is divided into three parts. The first focuses on the high-profile ‚MG Baltic‘ case and the insights that can be gained from it. The second discusses other cases in which the modus operandi of corrupt acts has been analysed. The third discusses the relationship between language and social reality.
