Summary/Abstract: The purpose of this article is to critically analyse the concept of radical theology, which is authored by the American philosopher John D. Caputo. It is developed in opposition to confessional theology, i.e. theology practiced within a particular religion or denomination. For Caputo, moreover, radical theology is not only a doctrine but also a form of spirituality, i.e. a way of life consisting in openness to the unconditioned in conditioned existence. The article consists of three parts. In the first, the American philosopher’s general conception of theology is presented. In the second one, the focus is on the distinction between confessional and radical theology. In the third, the essential forms of radicalised theology (‘theology of event’, ‘theology of hospitality’, ‘theology of the cross’ and ‘theology of difficult glory’) are shown.
