Summary/Abstract: This article is an attempt to reconstruct the ethnomusicological field research conducted in the Vilnius region by Polish composer, violinist, pianist, conductor, musicologist, reviewer and music activist – Roman Padlewski in the 1930s on behalf of the Stefan Batory University. Based on preserved letters to ethnographer Maria Znamierowska-Prüfferowa and the composer’s parents I will reconstruct the range of his research, its significance, and Padlewski’s conclusions drew based on the songs he heard.
