Summary/Abstract: The observations made in this article are situated within the theoretical and methodological framework of metalexicography, and concern the evaluation of the content of the headword entries describing the Indonesian biblical phraseological unit serigala berbulu domba (lit. a wolf having the hair of a sheep). Thirteen phraseological dictionaries and two general dictionaries were examined, of which only five record this expression with the meaning ‘a person who conceals their true intentions’. None of the lexicons provide information on its origin or unedited examples of its use. Some dictionaries also list the synonyms musang berbulu ayam and domba berbulu serigala, but without indicating the relationships between these three discontinuous units. The author calls for supplementing dictionary data with informationon the origin of the idiom, its functioning in texts, its variants, and its near-synonyms. Consideringthe phenomena of synonymy and variation of the base idiom, as well as historical and religious factors, leads to the hypothesis that the biblical idiom was borrowed from Dutch.
